David Lee Award Wining DJ – Thank you’s
On Monday 27th November 2017 I won an award. The English Wedding Entertainment Award for the North West 2017. I can’t begin to say how proud I am of this award. I’m not a big believer on these things usually. It’s normally the one who has the most ‘likes’ after pestering all their clients non stop to keep voting for them. I’m not into that. But on this occasion it wasn’t the case. Someone had voted for me. I then had to give good cause for being voted. I.e. recommendations, charity work etc. And that was it. They then did their research, and come back with their winners. So me being my cynical self, went along for night out with my wife thinking it’s nice to have night together because of the business not apart because of it. Not expecting to win.
On the night
We booked a room, had a couple of drinks and went through to the awards show and had a meal. Great night. I think mine category was the third from last award to be awarded. I was so shocked when they called out my name. I really didn’t expect to win, at all. I didn’t win the overall as that award went to the fab Redwings Band from Sunderland. And in a way, i’m glad, as I would have burbled some sort of thank you (being non prepared) and walked of stage, looking a little bemused. Where as now, I get to compose a little something to the people who helped make this possible, and thank people who wouldn’t have been there to hear it.
My Thank you’s
First – To the bride & groom who nominated me, and don’t know who you are but thank you. I do my job on the night, hope you’ve enjoyed yourself, madde some memories, and that’s it. sometimes I get an email, reviews, cards after the day saying what a wonderful time you’ve had. But to go out of your way to recommend me for an award – I Thank you!
Next – To all you other happy couples, thank you for trusting in me to give you night and party you wanted. The amount of times I hear ‘awesome’ & ‘couldn’t ask for any more’ or my favourite ‘I nearly peed myself because I didn’t want to stop dancing’ . That makes my night, which makes my job worth it! Thank you for having faith.
Next – To my long standing DJ Business Wife – Peter Lockwood. We go back over ten years now, and we’ve grown together, evolved together, and he stops me from making stuuupid business decisions just because something sounds louder or shines brighter. And vice versa I might add! We bounce ideas of each other, and even thou we run our own DJ & Lighting companies, I know I have a business friend I can trust. Thanks you, your friendship means a lot.
Last and by no means least
She of all people I thank the most. I’ve been Djing longer than we’ve been married. We have been married 21 years, and I’ve been DJing for 22 years. We have 2 children 17 & 19. And she allowed me to indulge myself in a hobby, then into having 2 jobs (a full time & DJ) then going in to full time DJ. All the time giving up weekends, to stay with the kids, while I was out working. The kids have grown up, 1 is at uni, the other will leave next year to go to Drama school. And all this time, she’s been happy for me to try to make this work. So even thou you don’t help me with my job, you allow me to do my passion. And I thank you, don’t ever think I don’t appreciate what you do. With you, all things are possible.
I gave & continue to give up weekends with the wife and kids. I give up week day evenings and Sunday mornings for client meetings. And I don’t regret it for one minute, because I love my job. Because of the reaction I get when I drop a TUNE!!! (See picture to the left from Saturdays wedding!) Because of the reviews and testimonies & feedback that tells me I doing something right. And this award just backs that up. I don’t do this job for the awards but they sure do leave a nice warm feeling inside.
I know it’s bit long, but hey I don’t intend or expect to win another one (but you never know), so got take my chance right. All the best, and hope to see you around.
