What’s Cheesy Music

What’s Cheesy Music?

What is cheesy music? Some of my clients state “please no cheese” others don’t mind if “I throw in a bit of cheese” yet both the customers have different ideas as to what cheesy music is. And what I consider cheesy might not be your idea, but here I’m going to give you some idea as to what I consider is – Cheesy Music.

Cheesy Music

Love The Cheese

Cheesy Music according to David Lee.

To me, cheesy music is usually a niche song; one hit wonder, or dance routine song. Some examples to me would be Don’t stop believing – Glee, Y.M.C.A – The Village People or Macarena – Los del Rio. Doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing but to me that type of music is Cheesy Music.

No Cheesy Music please

Loathe The Cheese

It’s when people mention Wham – Wake me up Before you go go, or maybe Whiteny Houston – I wanna dance with somebody as cheesy. This is where I’d have to put my foot down. To me these are party classics. Build me up buttercup is what I’d class as a party classic not cheesy. Why? well not too sure to be honest, but I’ll try to explain. Basically You don’t have a party without them and they work, they fill the dance floor. The amount if times I’ve dropped Wake me up before you go go onto an unsuspecting dance floor only to be greeted by  oooh’s or yesssssss!!!  You don’t get this with cheesy music unless they want it. Party classics will go down well at 60th, 21st, weddings, proms (even if they think they don’t want ‘em) but when you play them they love it! Cheesy stuff is more of an acquired taste, it has to be wanted. You can’t just lay that stuff on a dancefloor and hope it will work. You are asking for trouble.

Your thoughts and experiances on ‘cheesy music’ and why?

Music Is not Science

Music Is not Science

I’m sure some of you will be agreeing and disagreeing with some of these examples, that’s great – because at the end of the day music is subjective – it’s not an exact science. I’m just trying to put my thoughts out there.

So to me it’s either Cheesy Music or Party Classics. There is a difference, even thou it’s a tough call sometimes I.e. Blame it on the boogie The Jacksons!!! it’s a tough job but someone has to do it.

What are your thoughts? What do you class as cheesy music? Would you love or loathe cheesy tunes at your party? Did a DJ play some at a party and did it bomb or make the event? Please comment below with your thoughts, ideas and experiences,
